Morning Cactus

Morning Cactus - Watercolor, 8" x 8"

When I was in Tucson a couple weeks ago for the 2016 Plein Air Convention, I painted this plein air painting as the sun was rising. I had woken up early because I was still on East coast time. The air was cool and the birds were singing to me as I painted. This is not my typical subject for painting, but I was captivated by the glowing halo of light around the cacti. I tried to capture it as best I could.

Still Here

Still Here, Oil on Gessobord, 6" x 6"

SOLD

This was a quick plein air painting that I actually really like. It was a good day for it and I was able to get the values that I wanted. I am having fun with oil painting.  I love old trees, not only do they have interesting shapes, but there is an aura of determination about them.  They seem to say, "Never Give Up"!

Breakfast

Breakfast, Oil on Linen, 10" x 6"

SOLD

With 12 chickens, I eat a lot of eggs. My favorite breakfast! This was such a fun painting to paint that I am thinking of more "Kitchen Scapes" to paint.

Apple and Limes

Apple and Limes, Oil on Linen, 10" x 6"

I had a lot of fun this afternoon painting this still life. The limes and apples seem to compliment each other well and the spoons provided some strong directional lines.  I am also liking this taller format.  I will be doing more of these paintings.

Winter Fields

Winter Fields, Oil on Canvas Panel, 6" x 6"

This is one of those plein air paintings that is more of an experience than a representation. I will never forget this day. My friend, Lena Thynell, and I started painting on a cold winter afternoon when it started to snow. Not hard at the start, but by the time we finally gave up, I found out why it is not good to have too much snow land in your oil palette. I was trying to paint with oils the consistency of "cottage cheese". I finished this painting back at my studio remembering that day. Plein air is so fun and unpredictable...

Glacier Falls

Glacier Falls, Oil on Gessobord, 8" x 10"

I have wanted to paint this painting for a while. A while ago, my husband and I took a trip to Glacier National Park which we both loved! I took a lot of photos during that trip in hopes of painting some. Decided to take some of my ideas out again. This was my favorite hike of the entire trip. My husband and I ended up getting caught in a rain storm, but the waterfalls were amazing!

Forgotten Barn

Forgotten Barn, Oil on Gessobord, 6" x 8"

SOLD

There is something so romantic and nostalgic about old farms and barns. They bring back memories of times long gone. However, for some reason fresh snow livens up everything.

Late Evening

Late Evening, Watercolor, 6" x 8"

This is a plein air painting I did as a series of three. One evening while in Southern Utah, I painted three small painting in succession. I started before the sun was going down and painted three paintings as the sun fell. This is the final painting in that series. It was really fun and interesting to see how the values and colors changed as the sunset. It was neat to see how much more intense the rock wall got as the sun was falling.
