Marsh Creek

Marsh Creek - Oil on Canvas Panel - 8" x 6"

There are so many beautiful creeks and streams around where I live in Central Pennsylvania. This oil painting was painted from a plein air painting I did in watercolor. It was fun to convert this scene into oil with just my plein air watercolor for inspiration. I don't usually paint streams, but I have to say that painting by a stream has to be one of the most relaxing painting experiences.

Across the Lake

Across the Lake - Oil on Panel - 6" x 6"

I just had a great summer weekend with my family. Lots of swimming, fishing and playing games. I also did an small plein air oil each day. This oil painting was from the first day. It was relaxing and educational. One of the aspects I love about the lake we go to is that the skies are fantastic! There are always great clouds in the evening.

One crispy Fall morning, I took my oil painting plein air backpack and my dog Max on a walk. We stopped near the top of this drive and I tried to capture the fantastic light coming through the bare trees. It was a good mornings work!

Wall Street Patterns

Wall Street Patterns - Watercolor - 7" x 9"

This small plein air study was really fun to paint. It was a beautiful day and I just loved the abstract patterns in the canyon walls across the Green River. This was just outside of Moab, UT on the Kane Creek Road side.

Big Red

Big Red - Oil on Panel - 6" x 6"

I love red peppers!! To both eat and to paint! I haven't done a red pepper painting since I was in college... thought I would try it again.

Nightly Stroll

One of my first tries at painting a nocturne. It was a lot of fun and I like how it turned out.

Evening Calm

Evening Calm, Oil on Panel, 6" x 6"

This evening plein air oil painting was such a joy to paint. The temperature was perfect and air was so calm and peaceful. Plein air painting is always fun, but there are times it is more stressful and does feel like work. But, this evening was not like that, it was totally enjoyable and peaceful. I was captivated by the glow of the mountains through the grey trees... Such a beautiful place and right in my backyard!

This is an autumn plein air oil painting I did. I love the middle of Fall when the colors are so bright, but I also love late fall. The colors are not as bright, but they are richer and still so beautiful! I think this is my favorite season in the East!
